It is very difficult to describe the archtop building process in a paragraph such it is the fruit of a long elaboration.
Building an instrument calls on many knowledges and different craftsmanships (Sculpture, acoustic researches, inlays work, wood &eamp; materials work, finishing…) At the opposite to the arched 'laminated" guitars, all Sabolovic's instruments are built and carved in massive wood, a similar process to the violin lutherie.
An archtop often needs more than 1 month full work.
Choosing the wood has a main importance because it will have an direct impact on the personality of the instrument. A wood should have not only its own qualities (flexibility, close grain…) but also need to be well dried and well grown old.
We mostly use European first quality woods. These woods are known and used since centuries by famous italian "luthiers". In the case of the archtop guitar, massive curly maple and massive spuce are the main woods.
Different others woods are used for the fingerboard, inlays or decoration.
